Optical protection matched to the laser source

Direct or reflected laser radiation can cause irreversible eye injury. Laservision eyewear attenuates defined spectral ranges and operating regimes; no single model is universal for every laser. Personal protective equipment complements the risk assessment, screens, enclosures, interlocks and safe working procedures.

Filters and frames for different applications

The Laservision portfolio combines plastic or mineral-glass filters, including coated solutions, with frames designed for field of view, secure fit and repeated use. Depending on the application, options include lightweight spectacles, over-the-glasses designs, strap-mounted goggles, prescription inserts and extended face-protection systems.

How to select a configuration

Selection starts with the laser source specification and the accessible exposure at the workstation. A technical recommendation normally requires:

  • the wavelength or wavelengths in use;
  • maximum power for continuous-wave emission or maximum pulse energy;
  • pulse duration, repetition rate and operating regime;
  • beam diameter and geometry, working distance and foreseeable reflections;
  • required protective marking, visible light transmission, field of view and frame format.

Applicable markings may address D, I, R or M operating regimes, depending on the emission. The final product must be confirmed against the risk assessment and the certified markings of the delivered configuration.

Standards and responsible use

For the European market, laser safety eyewear is selected and marked in the context of applicable standards, including EN 207 for laser protection and EN 208 for alignment eyewear where relevant. The exact marking and LB rating must be checked on the supplied configuration.

Can I choose eyewear from wavelength alone?

No. Power or energy, pulse duration, repetition rate, beam geometry, accessible exposure and operating regime are also required.

Is there universal eyewear for every laser?

No. A filter may cover several ranges, but selection remains source-specific and can involve trade-offs in visible light transmission and colour recognition.

Can laser eyewear be worn over prescription glasses?

Yes. OTG frames and prescription-insert solutions are available. Fit must be checked for coverage and stability.

Is eyewear sufficient for laser safety?

No. It is one protective layer and must be integrated with engineering, administrative and procedural controls.
