OFTALAS prototype in development stage\n<\/p>\n

Both in our country and on the international level, the problem of the increasing number of eye diseases is considered particularly serious. The ageing of the population in developed areas (USA, Japan, Europe) is leading to an increase in the number of “old age” eye diseases such as cataracts and glaucoma. In response to this, there has been an international explosion of research into devices using laser radiation as an active element in ophthalmic surgery, and systems such as the Nd:YAG laser ophthalmic device for various surgical procedures have been successfully marketed in developed countries for some time.
\nOftalas is an innovative device with a wide range of ophthalmic applications; basically, it is an adaptable laser system for ophthalmic microscopes. The product is entirely developed and manufactured in Romania and its performances are similar to similar devices manufactured by prestigious international companies in the field.
\nAmong the features of the device the following can be highlighted:<\/p>\n

– the development of a Nd:YAG laser with super Gaussian beam; for this it was necessary to develop the technology for the development of a deposition extraction mirror with super-Gaussian profile.
\n– implementation of an electro-optical attenuator for a continuous laser energy adjustment that does not use moving opto-mechanical parts; this resulted in good system stability, increased accuracy, easy calibration as well as an increased lifetime of the device;
\n– the realisation of original firmware using the visual programming environment for Flowcode\u00ae 4 microcontrollers.
\n– original and high-performance design of electronic and optical blocks
\nParameters of the ,,Oftalas” module:
\n– laser wavelength: 1064 nm
\n– energy: 0.5 – 9.0 mJ (adjustable in 0.1 mJ steps)
\n– pulse length: 6ns
\n– beam diameter: 10 \u00b5m
\n– standard deviation: – energy variation per 1000 pulses: – marker laser: 635nm diode, max 1mW
